Community Captain Responsibilities
Hoosiers for Higher Education depends on the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. Community Captains serve a vital role as coordinators for the other members in local legislative districts. In many ways, Captains serve as HHE legislative contacts in their local communities.
Specific Community Captain Duties Include:
- Promote the higher education message in the local community.
- Assist with recruiting new HHE members.
- Help promote and attend the annual legislative briefing/faculty forum in their community.
- Contact local legislators with information about IU issues at the Statehouse.
- Monitor local media for stories about higher education. Forward copies to the HHE office in Bloomington.
- Attend HHE legislative visit days at the Statehouse.
In addition, Community Captains are invited to attend occasional special receptions and legislative briefings.
